A journey in the experience of Verdi Opera Direction, encompassing four great interpreters of our time, such as Luchino Visconti, Franco Zeffirellli, Giorgio Strehler and Luca Ronconi. The most significant and innovative stagings which set a benchmark in the Opera Direction of the 20th Century will be analysed.
Visconti’s La traviata, Zeffirelli’s Otello, Strehler’s Simon Boccanegra and Ronconi’s Don Carlo are the landmarks of a totally new approach in the Opera staging, in which the Director plays an irreplaceable role in rendering the dramatic intention of the composer, thus ending the time of the total mastery of singing demands over the performing requirements of the musical theatre.
